it was dry for weeks, wasn’t it? not normal for cumbria at all! the short grass on the path eaten down by the geese, became brown and dry. cracks appeared in the soil where it was bare, but by some magic most plants and deep rooted trees were surviving. but the pines suffered.
where there are lots of, dare I say it, ‘weeds’ covering the ground there was enough moisture to keep things growing green. a sort of false comfort, as below, the earth was dusty. it was strange to feel grateful that where I planted the garlic in the vegetable patch, ‘weeds’ were keeping in what dampness there might be at night
a bowl placed in the kitchen sink captured washing water as a way to keep some of my garden friends less stressed. I made the most of the glorious hot sunny days but thought about the essential nature of water. grass is the staple that feeds so many creatures, including our geese and three donkeys, but it needs both rain and warmth to grow
then suddenly, rain...
initally just a little, now it has been plentiful again, a blessing falling from the sky, I am thankful and relieved and celebrate each magical sparkling droplet...
simply grateful.
what are you grateful for today?
let me know, I love to hear from you and how you stay connected with nature...
thank you for reading...
There are many things I'm grateful for and today I'm simply grateful for having a roof over my head and being able to create a peaceful haven in which to retreat from the world when I need to. I often walk in nature, especially woodland and I'm writing this from my conservatory where I really do feel connected to nature. 💚
